News from the Jean Monnet Project Youth Opinion and Opportunities for EU Public Diplomacy

The Latvian Institute of International Affairs is happy to share news from the Jean Monnet Project Youth Opinion and Opportunities for EU Public Diplomacy: Youth Narratives and Perceptions of the EU and EU-Ukraine Relations in Ukraine and the three Baltic States (E-YOUTH).

LIIA Associate Researchers Vineta Kleinberga and Elizabete Vizgunova have published their academic article "Media Narratives on Russia in the Context of Post-Maidan Ukraine" in the special edition of the New Zealand Slavonic Journal "30 years after the breakup of the USSR: Russia and Post-Soviet Europe, narratives and perceptions" (eds. Natalia Chaban, Henrietta Mondry, and Evgeny Pavlov).

The journal is available and downloadable for free here.

The article analyses how Latvian digital media outlets communicate and shape political narratives in their representation of Russia and Ukraine.

Meanwhile, on 13 August 2021, the Latvian Institute of International Affairs held a public presentation of the results of the Jean Monnet Project: "Youth Opinion and Opportunities for EU Public Diplomacy: Youth Narratives and Perceptions of the EU and EU-Ukraine Relations in Ukraine and the three Baltic States (E-YOUTH) (2018-2021)".

The project focused on a comprehensive analysis of youth opinion in Ukraine and the EU (three Baltic states of Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania). The project presentation will provide the project's insights on the Ukrainian youth opinions on the EU-Ukraine relations and the views of the youth in Latvia on EU-Ukraine relations, comparing them and showing how future leaders see the place of Ukraine in Europe.

This project is being implemented with the support of the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union.

The project focuses on a comprehensive analysis of youth opinion (tertiary/secondary level students and youth leaders) in Ukraine and the EU (three Baltic states of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania). It treats information gathered as an indicator for the national youth opinion on EU-Ukraine relations and Ukraine's European orientation in the context of the ongoing violent conflict which threatens the EU's eastern edges. Youth is defined as a key target audience for EU public diplomacy.
